]]>Oil tanks are very necessary but sometimes their placement is not practical and obstructs an area. Maybe you are redesigning your garden and need the tank moved to make space for a patio. I can work with you to relocate your tank to a more convenient position complying with local authority guidelines and safety guidelines. Some factors to consider for a new location include the tank capacity required, dimensions, and shape of the tank.
Call me on 087 2364500 if you would like to discuss this option or get a quote, it could be the nicest home improvement you do this year!

Have you considered what's growing near your oil tank and how big it will get over time? What seems like a great idea at the time can incur costly damage in the future.
As you can see from the image above, there wasn't enough room left between the tank and the plant thus over time putting pressure on both.
This type of stress to the tank will lead to cracking or the tank being pushed off its base, both easily avoidable.
We advise researching the foliage you plan on using to see how much space they require when fully grown.
Planting near an oil tank may make the area look more appealing but you should also keep in mind that your oil tank is accessed numerous times during the year - whilst checking the oil level, the oil itself being delivered and also during an OFTEC registered boiler service where an oil tank check is also part of the service.
If your tank area resembles the image, contact us on 0872364500.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is an
Ireland has an average of 6 deaths a year from carbon monoxide poisoning. CO can build up in rooms that are badly ventilated. It is recommended that a carbon monoxide alarm should be fitted in every room of a house that contains a fuel burning appliance. This could be an open fire, gas heater, wood burning stove or an oil boiler.
November is carbon monoxide awareness month - check your alarm today!

]]>Water in oil tanks is an increasing issue at the moment. When water gets into an oil tank and builds up it can get into the burner.
It can happen from rainwater entering the tank because of a missing lid, or through a crack in a badly supported tank. Temperature differences can also lead to a build-up of condensation droplets.
If water enters the boiler is can cause costly damage. Before your next fill of home heating oil we would recommend checking your oil tank for water with water finding paste.
In the event of finding water, call us on 087 2364500 / 091 677278 for assistance.
]]>We are proud to stock carbon monoxide alarms from Irish manufacturer Ei Electronics who recently celebrated 60 years manufacturing in Shannon.

It is not just metal tanks that can rust, the outlet pipes on a plastic oil tank can also corrode leading to leaks which can be environmentally hazardous. The outlet pipes of an oil tank face the same harsh elements during the winter as the main body of the tank and need to be inspected for corrosion to avoid such leaks.
If you are unsure of what to look for, we provide a tank assessment service. During an OFTEC approved tank inspection our technician will check if your tank has any spillage or fire risks. The pipe fittings, filters, valves and lid can also show signs of aging, sun bleaching or rusting. The base/stand will be examined to ensure it can support a tonne weight when the tank is full.

Boilers should be serviced annually to keep them running efficiently. You can make fuel savings of up to 20% after having your boiler serviced, a new burner jet fitted and the settings adjusted (see www.seai.ie for tips to reduce your use).
It is important that your service engineer is qualified to do the job. All technicians at Tank & Boiler Services are fully OFTEC trained and registered and fully insured. We will give you a printout of your boilers efficiency as part of the service and even check your oil tank and fittings for wear and tear so your annual service is a thorough one.
This time of year is ideal for a service while your boiler is not in constant use. Book your boiler service today on 091 677278 / 0872364500, we can arrange a day and time to suit you.
]]>A bunded tank is basically a tank within a tank offering a secondary containment area with a double-skin design. If the inner tank ever leaks, the fuel would be contained within the outer tank preventing any ground contamination.
Irish Building Regulations recommend a bunded tank in cases where an oil leak would present a significant risk of water pollution. Even in cases where they are not legally required. Customers are opting for bunded tanks because it will be sited near a well, stream or river and gives peace of mind that watercourses are safe from contamination in the event of a leak.
We stock a selection of Irish-made tanks by Kingspan in Portadown and Carberry Plastics in Cork.

]]>The sun and heat puts a lot of stress and strain on our oil tanks causing them to bow/burst/crack/weep. This tank was full but luckily the owner checked their tank and saw it bowing and we pumped the oil out. This has saved the price of the oil plus the clean up if it had leaked in the garden.
If you notice any changes in your oil tank call me on 087 2364500.
]]>An oil storage tank is susceptible to damage from the harsh weather and also stress from the heavy load it holds. The lifespan of an oil tank is approximately 15 years if installed and maintained to manufacturer guidelines. An annual check is advisable for safety and environmental reasons.
This time of year is ideal to check the following:

Heavy rain showers are a common occurrence in April and although, April showers bring May flowers....the rain is not so kind to our oil system if it gets inside it!
Rainwater can do costly damage to our boiler so we advise checking your tank lid. Lids may have blown off during the winter storms and blustery weather.
We have a selection of second hand tank lids should you find your lid is missing.

Temperature differences can also lead to a build-up of condensation droplets. In any case the water does not belong in the oil tank, and so it needs to be removed before it leads to costly repairs. First you need to establish how much water is in your oil tank. We stock water-finding paste you can smear onto a dipstick and lower into the tank to detect the level of water present.
The photo shows me dipping an oil tank during a shower of rain. With the rain drops visible on the dipstick paste. A water gripper from our shop will absorb half a litre of water or we can call to pump out larger quantities before any damage is done to your heating system. Give me a call on 091 677278 / 087 2364500 if you need more assistance.

The HSE recommend you should always set the controls over 60 degrees to kill bacteria in the water that can cause Legionnaires disease. Boilers set to very hot temperatures cost more money to run and are a higher cost to the environment too.
Your boiler service technician will usually set the temperature for you during a routine boiler service. if you have any questions or wish to book your annual boiler service, call me on 091 677278 or 087 2364500.
