Water finding paste detects the presence of water in fuel tanks. The paste is golden brown in colour but on contact with water it will turn bright red. Water can be present in oil tanks from condensation or a badly fitting lid. Excess water build-up causes costly repairs to the heating system.

Oil and water do not mix. Oil is lighter than water so the water will always drop down in a layer at the bottom of the tank. Smear your sample of water finding paste onto a dipstick and lower the stick to the bottom of your oil tank to see if water is present.
