It is natural that water will be present in oil tanks from condensation but excess water build-up causes problems if it flows into the home heating system with the oil. The oil tank water gripper acts as a sponge to soak up water from the bottom of the oil tank. It can absorb up to 1.59 litres of water and will not remove any oil. This will help to prevent water from entering the burner and causing costly damage.
This large water gripper is 10cm in diameter. Please check that the opening of your oil tank is compatible, otherwise opt for our smaller water gripper.
Oil and water do not mix and will always be found in separate layers. Oil is lighter so the water will always be present at the bottom of the tank. You can check for the presence of water by rubbing some water-finding-paste onto a dipstick and lowering it into your oil tank. Call Pat on 087-2364500 for larger quantities of water as a pump will be required.
First tie the string of the water gripper to the lid of the oil tank. Once the string is secure, lower the water gripper into the tank, it is weighted so will lay flat on the bottom of the tank. Secure the lid of the tank. After a few days you can check your water gripper by gently pulling it up out of the oil tank, if the cage is full you can remove it and discard it according to your local authority waste guidelines. It can be left for several months in the oil tank safely absorbing water particles.
